The Royal Botanic Garden was home to a large colony of native Grey-headed Flying Foxes, a large species of fruit bat until they were evicted by repeated playing of extremely loud recorded noise because of the significant damage to trees used for roosting. Some can still be seen outside the Garden were they eat fruits from the fig trees at night.
